What is BREEAM certification at ING2K?
At ING2K, corporate social responsibility (CSR) is anchored in each of our projects. Our company is actively involved in the construction of buildings that respect the environment and promote users Quality of Working Life (QWL).
BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) certification which is at the heart of our projects illustrates this commitment by setting a rigorous protocol, from design to delivery, to build more sustainable, low-carbon sites.
ING2K, a pioneer in BREEAM certification in France
We were the first builder of logistics buildings in France to obtain BREEAM Excellent certification (in 2018, for a multi-temperature distribution logistics building in Saint-Quentin Fallavier) and then BREEAM Outstanding (in 2021, for the construction of a cross-dock logistics building in Ris-Orangis). In addition to these certifications, these initiatives demonstrate our determination to deliver low-carbon buildings right from the start.
Why aim for BREEAM certification?
A structuring framework for construction
BREEAM certification is a guide to more sustainable construction, including energy, water and waste management.
Reducing the carbon footprint
Faced with the challenges of climate change, ING2K adopts the most demanding standards to contribute to the ecological transition. We apply today’s best practices, but we also anticipate tomorrow’s regulations so that future generations can benefit from them.
Added value for stakeholders:
The CSR approach applied to our projects is based on six main areas with a total of 40 variables: green buildings, green spaces, technical installations, lighting, continuous integration and smart maintenance. Each area includes specific solutions, such as thermal insulation, eco- friendly materials, solar energy, the use of LEDs, and smart systems to optimise consumption while minimising environmental impact. For our clients, employees, partners and local authorities, it is a source of pride to see the emergence of certified low-carbon structures that enhance the local environment.
Multi-level certification:
BREEAM issues different levels of certification (from Pass to Outstanding), which ensure transparency about the level of certification awarded and allows each site to progress, with a continuous improvement approach.
BREEAM certification in a nutshell:
- Reduce environmental impact through sustainable materials and processes.
- Optimise energy and water consumption.
- User well-being with healthy, comfortable spaces.
- Property valuation on the market
How can I obtain BREEAM certification?
BREEAM certification is not just about delivery. It is a process that embraces the entire construction life of a site. The certification criteria needs to be integrated from the planning and design phase onwards, according to the level you want to achieve. Proof must be provided at the time of delivery. Here is how the process works in detail:
- Select a BREEAM accredited assessor: To carry out preliminary assessments and guide the project.
- Define the objectives: Identify the level of certification you are aiming for (Pass, Good, Very Good, Excellent, Outstanding) and incorporate the criteria right from the design phase.
- Collect data: Provide data relating to energy efficiency, water management, materials, occupant well-being, etc.
- Project assessment: The assessor examines each criterion and assigns a score based on performance.
- Certification: Once the project is compliant, a certificate is issued by the certification body.
Rigorous monitoring and close collaboration with experts in each business area are essential if the roadmap is to be a success.
ING2K is part of a global approach
BREEAM certification, which is available for our buildings, is just one component of our ecosystem for sustainable, low-carbon construction. We also work with other standards to build environmentally sensitive sites and reduce our carbon footprint.
